Obituary for Frank Knight

Esteemed Mid Rhondda Resident

Retired Insurance District Manager

The death of Mr Frank Knight husband of Mrs Margaret Knight 4, Hillside Terrace, Llwynypia, in his 53rd year robs the locality of one of its best known residents. A native of MidRhondda, he had taken an active interest in the social activities of the district. He had been in the service of the London and Manchester Insurance Co., for over 26 years as an agent and later as district manager. He retired a few years ago. Mr Knight was one of the founders of the Midrhondda Non-Political Club and a former chairman of the institute.

The funeral took place on Tuesday for Llethddru Cemetery. Mr Richard Pugh, Old Street, Tonypandy, officiated.

Among the general public were noticed Mr David Thomas [South Wales manager, London and Manchester Insurance Co., representing Cardiff office], Mr Jack Davies [district manager] and members of the Treorchy Office, Ferndale office district manager and staff. Mr B. Holdway, Barry [ex-district manager], Mr Tom Adams, Penygraig, together with members and officials of the Midrhondda Non-Political Club.

The following officials acted as bearer’s: Messrs. F Jones [Non-Political Club chairman] Sidney Miles [Secretary] J.Ashman trustee, Ted Blake [treasurer], Harry Jones and John Jones.

Chief mourners were Messrs. Tom Knight, Fred Knight [sons] Thomas Knight [brother]; John Jones [father-in-law]; Alfred Davies, Albert Hazell [sons-in-law]; Elias Richards, William Lewis, Daniel Morgan, Tom Morris, David Jones, Harry Smith and David Owen Brothers-n-law; Rev Thomas Thomas and Tom Williams, Cousins; Haydn Morris Nephew. Mourners at the house included Mrs Margaret Knight [widow], Nrs Ethel Davies, Mrs Irene Hazell, and Miss Netta Knight,daughters; Mrs T. Knight, daughter-in-law; Mrs Agnes Morris,Mrs Laura Smith, Mrs Alice Owen, Mrs Ethel Richards,[should read 'sisters'] Mrs W. Lewis, Mrs D.Morgan, Mrs J. Herbert, sisters-in-law; Mrs Lawrence, Mrs Phillips, Mrs Richards, cousins, Mrs M. Edwards, aunt; Miss Edna Morgan neice and Miss Hilda Hugh, [should read Hughes] friend.

KNIGHT – Mrs Margaret Knight and family, 4 Hillside Terrace, Llwynypia, sincerely thank relatives, friends, and neighbours for the numerous expressions of sympathy, letters, personal calls and for the floral tributes received during their sad bereavement.

The report was found cut from newspaper amongst the effects of Ethel May Davies [nee Knight]. It is was from the Rhondda Leader and dated Saturday, 31 August, 1935.
