The "tree" is proved back to the marriage of Walter MUIR, baptised 20 Jul 1751, to Margaret MORRISON baptised 6 Feb 1755. She is found on the 1841 Census aged 85 (bc 1756 Argyll), living with her son John MUIR (bc 1776 Argyll) and his daughter Helen (bc 1824 Lanarkshire), at 37 Commerce Street, Tradeston, Glasgow.

Earlier generations are conjectured, taken from the Longrow Parish Church, Campeltown, Argyll.

Robert, baptised 30 Apr 1830, was a Boilermaker by trade and enlisted in the Royal Artillery at Glasgow on 23 Nov 1847 and was discharged at Woolwich on 27 Jul 1860, service completed. He served in the Crimea War and was awarded the Campaign Medals, with the Clasps for Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann and Sebastopol.
